Sea moss, also called Iris moss, is a type of algae, which has been a part of the human diet for many years. It has been consumed historically in places like Ireland and the Caribbean. Their are reports of it been used for medical purposes for decades in other cultures. It has been used to treat many conditions from a nagging cough to treat various infections, boost your health and improve or enhance the skinÂ

It may help you digest your food
Sea moss is a whole food that is full of beneficial nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins. Much like okra and aloe sea moss is a gelatinous food. As yucky as this sounds, its snotty texture makes it an awesome healing agent for mucus membranes in the body, like the respiratory and digestive systems. It helps to get rid of bad bacteria and it improves gut health.

How it can improve thyroid function
It was really excited to discover that sea moss can improve your thyroid function. I suffer from thyroid disease so I was very eager to try sea moss. Thyroid disease effects your metabolism and causes hormonal imbalance. Sea moss contains large amounts of concentrated iodine which the thyroid uses to make the hormones that regulate your digestion, metabolism and much more. Their was an increase in my metabolism and I have lesser mood swings!

Improves energy levels
Vitamin B helps to capitalize energy stored in food. Sea moss contains a good amount of riboflavin (B2) and folate (B9) and is full of iron. When you are feeling tired or fatigued it may be that your iron levels are low. To improve your energy level, try adding sea moss gel to your smoothies along with vitamin supplements. If you are consistent with this regiment you will see a big difference in your energy levels. I also add sea moss to my water daily.Â

Sea Moss advances healthy weight loss
Sea moss cleanses your body of toxins and build up. When your body is cleansed it increases your metabolism and decrease your appetite. It also decreases your desire to eat unhealthy foods. Early I mentioned adding sea moss to your smoothies. I prepare myself a smoothie for lunch every day during the week. It have fresh ginger added to my sea moss which gives it a boost of spice. All you need to do is add at least 2 tablespoons of sea moss to your fresh fruits and vegetables before you blend. Here is one of my favorite smoothie recipes with sea moss:

- 1 cup blue berries
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 cup unsweet vanilla favor almond milk
